Overview
The ViClaro III HD Video IP Development Kit is a versatile video and imaging processing IP development platform. Designed in conjunction with Altera®, the kit includes a powerful suite of HD video processing IP Reference Designs based on Altera's Avalon® VIP system interconnect framework and supported by the high-performance Microtronix Avalon Multi-port DDR2 Memory Controller IP Core. The controller is highly efficient and able to utilize over 95% of the available memory bandwidth. This enables designers to build advanced high resolution (1920x1080p) video processing systems using low cost Cyclone III devices!
The ViClaro III Kit (DVI option) includes the following hardware:
- ViClaro III Video Host board,
- Quad Link LVDS Interface daughter card,
- LVDS loopback cables
- HDMI Receiver / Transmitter daughter card
- USB-Blaster Download Cable
ViClaro III Host Board
The ViClaro III Host Board contains the Cyclone III FPGA, USB 2.0 PHY, 4-lane PCIe PHY, 64-bit DDR2 memory, two HSMC connectors and one dedicated HSMC LVDS connector for adding an application specific daughter card. The HSMC connectors are compliant with the Altera HSMC specification and provide the versatility to add custom daughter cards.
Quad Link LVDS Interface Daughter Card
The Quad Link LVDS Interface Daughter Card supports receive and transmit LVDS links each consisting of 5 data channels and 1 clock for a total of 48 LVDS channels. The standard configuration of 20 Tx + 4 clk and 20 Rx + 2 clk, is capable of supporting LCD display panels up to 1080p at 100/120Hz. On-board LVDS termination resistors can be removed to convert receiver channels into transmitters as required to support 12 or 14-bit color applications.
The LVDS interface signals can be used for: capturing LVDS video data, connecting to a Camera Link interfaces or for connecting to LCD panels using LVDS, Mini-LVDS, RSDS, and PPDS low-voltage panel interface signaling. Custom LVDS daughter cards supporting alternative panel interface headers can be designed to meet your custom requirements.
HDMI Receiver / Transmitter HSMC Daughter Card
The ViClaro III Kit is supplied with a HDMI Receiver / Transmitter HSMC Daughter Card capable of supporting display resolutions from VGA to UXGA (1600x1200 and 1920x1080 [1080p@60]).
The HDMI Card provides an HDMI receiver and transmitter and an analog YCrCb video receiver.
HD Video Reference Designs
The HD Video Reference Designs are based on Altera's Avalon VIP system interconnected framework and leverage the unique ability of the Microtronix Multi-port DDR2 Memory Controller to drive the 64-bit DDR2 memory bus interface at 190 MHz while achieving a bus efficiency of over 90% in a mult-port Avalon configuration.
The PCI Express reference designs incorporate a 4-lane PCIe IP core from Northwest Logics Inc. The user is required to license this IP core if they are to build custom designs incorporating PCIe functionality. Linux drivers are supplied supporting read/write access to on-board devices and for building streaming video applications.
