Requirement

Consumer electronics manufacturer required a real-time dynamic video scaler for set top converter box.

Challenge

How to convert the customers reference design from high-level C-code PC based system into a low-cost VHDL implementation to achieve real-time video conversion.

Solution

Microtronix leveraged the performance of their Avalon Multi-port DDR2 Memory Controller and the structural architecture of the Cyclone III FPGA to build a system which could meet the performance, power dissipation and cost objectives of a consumer product.

Result

Microtronix converted customer's patented scaler algorithms from C-code into VHDL IP and by leveraged the power of Altera's Avalon-ST Video Framework in conjunction with the functionality of our Avalon Memory Controller, architected a modular video IP platform. The solution not only met all of the targeted objectives but also provided the means to add the functionality of a Motion Adaptive Deinterlacer which was identified as a requirement late in the design cycle.
