Text Overlay with PIP Display
Description
In this example there two video sources, a primary which will fill the display screen and the other is the secondary which will be used for the picture-in-picture (PIP) overlay. The system is controlled from a local laptop running a user application program.

Microtronix Application Solution
This application example is implemented using the Microtronix DX-2200-TI-24, SDI Text and Graphics Overlay Inserter which is specifically designed for this configuration. The unit provides two SDI outputs: one with the overlay and the other a clean loop-thru output of the primary video source.
The primary video source is connected to SDI Input 1 and the PIP video source connected to SDI Input 2. The output is displayed on a monitor connected to the SDI output port. The system is being controlled from using serial RS-232 commands generated by a user application program running on a local laptop.
The PIP size, location and transparency can be configured by user and can be switched ON or OFF as required.
The overlay text can be either a fixed string or changed dynamically as required for displaying time, score or any other user data. The font size color, position and alpha setting can be changed dynamically as may be required. The text can be turned ON or OFF at any time. The audio and other ancillary data on the primary channel is passed through the system.
Both the Microtronix
DX-2200-TI-24 and the
DX-4400-TI-2K products support this type of functionality.
