HD Video Solutions

Requirement

A manufacture of professional HD-SDI downstream scoreboard keyer systems for professional sports arenas and stadiums required HD-SDI Text and Graphic Inserter to automatically overlay scoreboard data and graphical information onto a live broadcast HD video stream. The unit was to be an easy to install plug-and-play system compatible the industry standard scoreboards systems including: DAK RTD, Dak TV Feed, OES, Fairplay and Nevco controllers.

Challenge

The unit needed to be an easy to install system; essentially plug-and-play to minimize operator errors and fully system compatible the existing industry standard scoreboard systems including: DAK RTD, Daktronics TV Feed, OES, Fairplay and Nevco controllers. The text overlay and was to be dynamically controlled through a serial port. Additional serial port interfaces include: a receive port for the Scoreboard Data Feed and an output port for a translated data feed to TV systems.

Solution

The application required enhancements to the DX-2200 HD-SDI Text & Graphics Inserter product. The feature enhancements included:

• The addition of additional hardware serial ports required to support the  scoreboard application,
• The development of a custom data parsers to decode vendor specific  scoreboard data,
• Mapping of scoreboard data onto text fields for display on the video stream,
  
• Software to translate the received data into Daktronics TCV Feed format for downstream systems,
  
• Enhancements to the DX-2200 system configurations to facilitated user  installations, and
• Redesign of enclosure to support locking DC power connectors.
  

Result

Microtronix achieved the design objectives by enhancing an existing product thus minimizing time-to-market while ensuring a cost effective product platform. A total of seven brands of scoreboard controllers were supported.

The product was custom labeled with the customer’s logo and sold exclusively as their proprietary product solution.
