Telephone Service Providers can now relay Message Waiting Indicators from legacy Voice Mail Systems through Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Gateway onto Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) phones.
LONDON, Ontario—October 6, 2006 - Microtronix® Datacom Ltd. today announced that it is releasing under license, a SMDI/SIP Message Waiting Indicator (MWI) Router that can interface to both the Public Switched Telephone Service (PSTN) and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) to Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone networks.
Currently, when voice messages are deposited onto a legacy Voice Mail System (VMS), Message Waiting Indicator's (MWI) are unable to pass through a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Gateway Proxy to clients who have a (SIP) Phone. Organizations that operate a Simplified Message Desk Interface (SMDI) legacy Voice Mail System (VMS) can extend the life of their equipment and stay current with today's technology by using the Microtronix SMDI/SIP Message Waiting Indicator (MWI) Router.
The initial deployment will be for a Lucent 5ESS Voice Mail System consisting of four legacy Voice Mail Systems, some of which contain multiple Simplified Message Desk Interface (SMDI) links. Philippe Morin, vice-president of Sales and Marketing, Microtronix, said: “The Microtronix SMDI/SIP MWI Router is an inexpensive solution enabling legacy Voice Mail System (VMS) to link via Simplified Message Desk Interface (SMDI) with today's Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) technology.”
