LONDON, ON.,—Nov. 10, 2008—Microtronix® Datacom Ltd., a leading producer of highly integrated video imaging and intellectual property (IP) development solutions, announced today it has updated its high performance line of Multi-port SDRAM Memory Controller intellectual property (IP) cores to support the growing demand for next generation Altera® Stratix® III and Arria® GX family of field programmable gate array (FPGA) devices. Engineers designing high performance video and image processing systems can now leverage the latest in FPGA technology in combination with world class memory controllers to produce leading edge video processing solutions.

To improve performance of the Memory Controller IP cores, the internal structure was redesign to improve clock distribution networks and incorporate new architectural features available in Stratix III devices. These design changes improved timing closure and boosted DDR2 memory performance from 333 MHz in a Stratix II to over 400 MHz in a top speed grade Stratix III device.

“Our knowledge of FPGA device architectures enables Microtronix to maintain our leadership position in supplying performance memory controller for Altera FPGA and HardCopy™ devices.” said Norman McCall, president of Microtronix. "By purchasing an off-the-shelf memory controller core, customer's decrease their engineering design risk, time to market schedules, and reduce their total project development costs.”

Microtronix IP cores target SDR, DDR, Mobile DDR and DDR2 memory devices. They support Altera Cyclone®, Stratix®, and Arria® GX device families.

Availability and Support

Microtronix intellectual property (IP) cores are currently available for immediate sale. The standard license includes one year of maintenance updates. For full details on licensing and available selection of Microtronix off-the-shelf IP cores contact: Sales at Microtronix

An OpenCore Plus evaluation license is available to allow engineers to simulate the behavior of a Microtronix IP core within the targeted system, verify in-circuit the functionality of the design, and evaluate its size and speed quickly and easily. To obtain a free OpenCore Plus evaluation license please visit the product webpage and click on the request evaluation license icon.
