Medical equipment manufacturer required an FPGA based hardware platform to support HD video image capture and display of video images from medical camera.

Challenge

How to support all of the desired interfaces including Coldfire, dual 1080p DVI video ports in a low cost FPGA?

Solution

Custom hardware board based on the Altera EP2C35 FPGA with 2GB 32 bit DDR2 DIMM module. The 1080p DVI ports video bus was designed with a DDR 12-bit interface to minimize signal integrity, ground bounce and pin counts.

Result

Developed and delivered custom hardware platform and IP cores supporting video frame capture and display of 720p, 1080i, and 1080p video. The card supports auto switching of input video from DVI camera sources.
